👀 Your Friends + AI = A New Feed?
Plus, our May book club pick and a new premium membership option
Hey M(AI)VENS,
This week, Meta (the parent company of Facebook) says it’s stepping into the AI spotlight with something new: a social AI app designed to know you and your circle.
Plus, we’re revealing our May book club pick and we’re officially launching M(AI)VENS Premium Membership!
When I started dreaming up our virtual (and eventually, in person) gatherings, I kept wondering —should they feel like a roundtable business chat? A speaker series? A book club hangout? A networking event? In true M(AI)VENS spirit, I decided: why not make it all of the above? It’s happening. 💜
And if you’re joining us for the first time—welcome! We had a lovely surprise this week when M(AI)VENS was featured on the Happier in Hollywood podcast (Episode 416). So thrilled to have you here! 🎙
Let’s dive in!
💬 Meta AI is Here
There’s a new player entering the chat—and she knows your favorite brunch spot, your best friend’s birthday, and how you caption your selfies.
Earlier this week, Meta announced a standalone AI app designed to compete directly with ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Gemini. But unlike its counterparts, Meta AI has something unique going for it: years of data from your Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger accounts could give it a huge head start in understanding you—your preferences, your relationships, and even your communication style.
Meta has already quietly integrated its AI into its core platforms—Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger—but this new app brings it all together in a dedicated space. Think of it like your own AI-powered assistant, but one that’s not starting from scratch. It remembers your past likes, your profile details, and the kinds of content you interact with most. And if you want it to go further? You can actively teach it even more about yourself—like noting that you’re dairy-free or that you’re planning a trip to Charleston—so future conversations feel even more personal and relevant.
Here’s where things get especially interesting for us as women navigating both tech and relationships: Meta is adding a Discover feed to this app, where you can choose to share your AI interactions with your social circle.
Imagine asking your AI to describe you in three emojis or plan a weekend getaway—and your friends can see it, react, and try it for themselves.
The idea is a little like Venmo’s public feed, where you can see who split brunch or bought concert tickets together. While some might find that a little too revealing, others see it as a low-stakes, social opportunity to more creatively reflect, plan, and play. If you’ve ever giggled at a friend’s Barbie AI makeover or compared your ChatGPT-generated images, you already know the appeal. Now Meta wants to put that kind of playful, connective AI use front and center.
Of course, any time you bring social data into the equation, it’s worth keeping an eye on how that data is used. Meta’s advertising business thrives on understanding users deeply, and this app builds on that same foundation. The more information you share with the AI, the more personalized—and possibly monetized—your experience becomes.
Evolution from Meta View to Meta AI
I decided to download the new Meta AI app to my phone so I could give it a try (and give you the scoop). I paused when I saw the reviews in the app store. Some of the reviews were dated all the way back to last year. If the mobile app is brand new (literally just announced this week), how is that possible? 🤔
So, I did a bit more research. The current Meta AI app is a rebranded and significantly enhanced version of the earlier "Meta View" app. Originally, Meta View served as a companion app for managing those fancy Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. 😎
With the latest update, Meta has transformed the app into a standalone AI assistant, complete with the Discover feed for community-shared prompts. Ok, now it makes sense.
🧠 I Tried It: My First Look Inside the Meta AI App
The Meta IA “Home” tab looked very similar to ChatGPT, with friendly, pre-populated prompts like “Let’s get to know each other” and “Describe me in 3 emojis.” So far, so familiar.
But then I clicked over to the Discover tab—that’s where Meta’s new social layer comes in. This section felt more like an AI art gallery-meets-internet fever dream. Think: images of a half-alligator, half-airplane flying contraption, an AI-generated Prada runway where all the models wore pizza, and “San Francisco in the style of Gaudí.” It was fun to scroll through for a few minutes… but also a bit confusing. I couldn't figure out why I was seeing those particular users or posts. I guess Meta had selected them for me, algorithm-style. Lovely.
All in all, it was interesting, but not quite my space (at least for now). That said, platforms like this are evolving fast, and I’ll be keeping an eye on how it develops—especially as more women begin to interact with AI socially.
💜 For M(AI)VENS staying ahead of the curve
Now also consider there are rumors that OpenAI is building its own social network that would work within ChatGPT.
According to reports, the company is developing an internal prototype that includes a social feed centered around ChatGPT's image generation capabilities. It would allow users to share content directly within the ChatGPT platform, potentially transforming it into a more interactive and community-driven experience. Well, this sounds pretty much like what I just experienced and described with the new Meta AI app. 🤯
These developments raise some interesting questions:
How will women use social AI to connect, express thoughts and ideas, and promote their brands and their work?
What boundaries do we want to set when it comes to sharing AI-generated content with our social media communities?
Is sharing AI-generated images really how we, as women, want to leverage AI in a social capacity?
If you're like me, I’d guess not. Which makes me wonder: Where are the women in the room when these tools are being designed?
I think of “social” as something more than just scrolling through a feed of surreal computerized images. I think of real conversations, shared goals, supportive networks, and helpful feedback that feels meaningful. For whichever AI platform figures this out, I’d say there’s a huge opportunity on the table. Would you agree?

📚 M(AI)VENS Book Club
A curated collection of stories featuring bold, brilliant women.
Our May pick is…The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. It’s an unforgettable memoir about finding strength through the chaos of a wildly complicated, deeply human family.
“When sober, Jeannette’s brilliant and charismatic father captured his children’s imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Her mother was a free spirit who abhorred the idea of domesticity and didn’t want the responsibility of raising a family.”
Jeannette Walls shares her unforgettable story—one shaped by grit, love, and the fierce pull of family. Her journey through a life both chaotic and full of heart makes this memoir so powerful.

Great info! And yes as you asked at the bottom - this is the key: I think of real conversations, shared goals, supportive networks, and helpful feedback that feels meaningful. For whichever AI platform figures this out, I’d say there’s a huge opportunity on the table.
