She speaks again — because of AI 💜
A powerful story, a $40B funding move, and a few AI shifts I think you’ll want to know.
Hey M(AI)VENS,
This week, we’re looking at AI breakthroughs in medicine, billion-dollar deals, marketing, and more. Whether you use AI daily or are just dipping your toes in, I’ve pulled together a few stories I think are worth your time this week (in just 5 minutes).
Let’s get to it!
🧠✨ From Brain to Voice
In a groundbreaking new study from UC Berkeley and UCSF, researchers have created a brain-computer interface (BCI) that translates brain signals into speech in real time—a first of its kind!
This means people with severe paralysis can "speak" just by thinking, with the output sounding fluent and even personalized to their own voice.
One especially moving part: the woman at the center of the study, Ann, can now hear her own voice again after losing the ability to speak. She said the real-time voice synthesis made her feel more in control and more herself. 💜
💰 AI News: OpenAI Gets $40B
OpenAI (the folks behind ChatGPT) just secured $40 billion in funding. This is officially the largest private tech funding round ever recorded.
It now ranks among the most valuable private companies in the world, right behind SpaceX and tied with TikTok's parent company ByteDance.
One mind-blowing stat — OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman shared they added ONE MILLION new users in a SINGLE HOUR.
Some behind-the-scenes business drama is happening too - OpenAI needs to restructure into a for-profit entity by the end of the year, or they'll lose some of this funding. It's a reminder that even the biggest AI companies are figuring things out as they go (kind of like us, right?!)
📱 The Apple Doctor Will See You Now
Apple is developing an AI-powered health coach that uses the data from your Apple Watch, iPhone, and Health app which may launch as soon as 2026.
Codenamed Project Mulberry, the revamped Health app, potentially named Health+, will give smarter recommendations using your own health data. Food tracking and movement coaching will be added. Perhaps the biggest piece is collaboration with actual physicians —and maybe even a recognizable celebrity doctor face to tie it all together.
Women often take the lead in managing not just their own health, but also their family’s. These tools could make it easier to stay on top of your health without extra appointments or guesswork.
🧩📈 SEO Is Shifting—Are You Ready?
Search is no longer just about Google. More and more people—especially Gen Z—are skipping the search bar and going straight to ChatGPT, YouTube, or TikTok for answers. The way people find you is changing fast.
For women building businesses and personal brands, this is a powerful shift. Experts recommend using AI to amplify your message while staying grounded in your own voice.
There’s now a stronger focus on E-E-A-T—experience, expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness—especially as AI plays a bigger role in how content is ranked and surfaced.
Search algorithms are evolving, and so is SEO strategy. Skip chasing keywords—your voice and lived experience matter more than ever.
🧐 Are We Taking A.I. Seriously Enough?
In his latest New Yorker piece, Joshua Rothman starts with a real-life example: turning to ChatGPT to analyze a real estate offer for his in-laws’ beachfront condo. AI identified that the offer was too low. It also warned that if developers gained control of the condo board, they could pressure remaining owners to sell. But AI also noted that a small group of holdouts could block redevelopment and force the developers to raise their offer. Wow!
It was strategic and faster than any human consultant could’ve delivered in a few minutes. Rothman goes on to explain how much of society at large seems stuck in wait-and-see mode. Meanwhile, tech insiders say AI is advancing rapidly and could soon upend jobs, economies, and even geopolitics.
Rothman urges all of us—artists, teachers, leaders, caregivers, community builders—to join the AI conversation now.
👩💻 Is Coding Still the Future? One Tech Billionaire Says, No
Tech billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya made headlines last week for saying something many of us didn’t see coming: “You should no longer learn to code.” According to Palihapitiya, AI is evolving so quickly that within 18 months (🤯) the role of software engineers will shift from building tools to simply supervising them.
Instead, he urges parents to encourage their kids to lean into subjects like philosophy, psychology, history, physics, and writing—fields that foster emotional intelligence, and creativity.
As a mom of two boys and a founder of M(AI)VENS, I flagged this story because so many of us are raising or mentoring young people. At the same time, we’re also trying to stay a step ahead in our own lives and careers.
That’s all for now.
Be sure to join the group chat and take the poll below (it helps me to know what you like and don’t like each week)!
💜 Stay tuned and stay curious.
